AESTHETIC EMOTIONS
1500 B&W 2cm circular negatives on a Lightbox in the middle of the room accompanied with a wallpaper display of enlarged B&W 35mm film scans with the missing circles
Negatives are created in a way that there’s only one original and to make duplicates they need to be either printed or scanned digitally. Traditionally there’s only one physical copy, so to destroy that copy means you can’t use it again, so to modernise the negative, to me meant to cut it into a circle. The circle became this point of view and glimpse into something intriguing, which personally has triggered an emotion or thought which can then be explored visually in this small element of the frame. I have cut out elements of emotions personal to me but, due to the mundane characteristics of the visuals, the public can then search for something they will respond to, that will be revealed to them upon viewing it. To produce this I have spent time on walks with my analogue camera, taking photographs of with B&W 35mm film of anything, an item, landscape, or detail that causes any kind of thoughts or emotions: this has allowed me to understand myself further and to acknowledge my emotions when they happen.
Society is developing allowing people to be more comfortable in exploring their emotion, to be able to feel safe and to know they are being understood and that the subject of emotions is not taboo . The work is a visual opening to this conversation, as the photographs will cause a response, an emotion, a memory, a daydream Whether it’s logical or not, positive, or negative, we all have these thoughts and should feel comfortable to share them.

OPEN NIGHT
On Friday the 22nd September there was the private viewing for all family and friends to see and support the University of Derby Master Degree students exhibition, Revealed, at the Artcore Gallery Derby.
In this exhibition, I displayed my work, Aesthetic Emotions, an installation piece of 1500 B&W 2cm circular negatives on a Lightbox in the middle of the room accompanied with a wallpaper display of enlarged B&W 35mm film scans with the missing circles.
During the evening, I was awarded with The School Award for exceptional creative ability for their final body of work, and the Emerging Artist award presented by Artcore Gallery, this award allows me to be part of another exhibition in 2024 with the support of Artcore Gallery. This was a complete shock and so grateful to have this opportunity!
I have to say a massive thank you to the University of Derby staff, current and past tutors, the technicians and the print hub for helping me achieve everything and successfully completing my degrees. Thank you Artcore, for the award and support in setting up of the exhibition. And thank you to my family for all the continuous supporting and belief in me for everything I do!
